The chapters cover basic facts about rubber and its historical use in civil engineering, with a particular focus on structres that benefit from vibration isolation and earthquake protection. In the second Penang Bridge High Damping Natural Rubber (HDNR) bearings are used to unsure that the bridge survives against any major earthquakes in its proximity.

Seluas 18,812.98 hektar ladang getah telah diserang Penyakit Luruhan Daun Pestalotiopsis. Penyakit ini telah menyerang ladang getah hampir di seluruh negara kecuali Pulau Pinang, Perlis dan Sabah. Lembaga Getah Malaysia telah mengambil langkah proaktif dengan memulakan usaha usaha membendung penyakit tersebut daripada terus menular. Antara usaha yang telah dijalankan adalah melakukan rawatan semburan racun kulat kepada daun pokok getah yang telah dijangkiti dan memberikan khidmat nasihat kepada pekebun kecil getah.
