ABSTRACT :
Global commercialisation of new rubber products and acceleration of downstream for rubber products testing activities would require for testing of Malaysian rubber and rubber products to be in line with standards for quality, safety and reliability. Standards form the fundamental building blocks for products, materials and test methods development through the establishment of consistent protocols that can be universally adopted and understood. Hence, it is important to develop standards applicable to rubber and rubber products to be published and used by the industry within a short period of time. The amendment of Standards of Malaysia Act 1996 (Act 549) has allowed the Department of Standards Malaysia (Standards Malaysia), the National Standards Body (NSB) as well as the National Accreditation Body are to appoint more Standards Development Agencies (SDAs) for faster development of Malaysian Standards (MS) and to coordinate Malaysian representation in international standardisation activities according to its areas of expertise.
