The use of Latex Timber Clones (LTC) from RRIM2000 series has great potential to produce high latex yield as well as wood production. In establishing short-cycle (15 years) rubber forest plantation with high density planting for the extraction of timber, the LTC clones are efficient trees which are capable of producing between 300 to 350 cubic meter of wood per acre. More importantly, due to its inherent properties such as light density, good aesthetics and easy workability, rubberwood is regarded as a very versatile timber suitable for a number of uses such as furniture, mouldings, panelling, skirting and edging. It is sufficiently hard for parquet and strip flooring, and is suitable for use in particleboard and medium density fibreboard (MDF) manufacturing. In April 1999, the company (Makmurplus) embarked on the rubber forest privatisation project promoted by the Johor State Government. The project area is situated at Block “B’’ in the Sermin Forest Reserve, Mukim Sermin, Segamat, Johor.
